Each fabric in our botanical collection is hand-dyed using natural techniques, resulting in one-of-a-kind tones with subtle depth. Even in our solid colours, you may notice delicate shifts in shade or tiny "perfectly imperfect" marks that reflect the beauty of small-batch, artisan dyeing. These unique qualities make each fabric a true individual, with a story woven into its fibres.

When you choose Eleventh House Fabrics, you’re embracing the charm of handcrafted artistry, where every piece is created with care and reflects the essence of natural dyeing. Please remember that these natural variations are part of what makes your fabric truly special.

Cutch is a natural dye obtained from the heartwood of the Acacia catechu tree. It produces warm, earthy shades of brown, ranging from soft caramel to deep rust, depending on the concentration and mordants used. Cutch is prized for its eco-friendly properties, high tannin content, and ability to create beautifully rich and enduring colours, often associated with traditional textile practices in South Asia.

I respectfully acknowledge the Kaurna people as the Traditional Custodians of the Adelaide Plains, the land on which I source local natural plant materials used to create my dyes. I honor their deep connection to this land, its plants, and its resources, which have sustained their culture for generations. I pay my respects to Kaurna Elders past, present, and emerging, and recognise their enduring relationship with the land, waters, and skies.
